Use of "Cookies"
Our website(s) makes use of "cookie" technology. A "cookie" is a small text file placed on your hard drive by page servers so it can be read back later from that browser. This is useful for having the browser remember specific information, such as pass codes and login identification. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from your hard drive, pass on computer viruses, or collect personally identifiable information to determine who you are, or capture your e-mail address. Our cookies are used for internal purposes only, such as to measure web site activity and address security within Internet Banking, and are not used to collect or disseminate personal information to any third party.
One of the most beneficial uses of cookies is website personalization, where you are able to customize the information you see. For example, by using cookies as part of our Internet Banking, you can personalize your website. Each time you access your online account homepage, the browser will remember your preferences until the cookie expires.
Cookies are also used on our website(s) to help us monitor traffic patterns and see how a user navigates through our website. This helps identify what sections of our website are visited most often so we can provide more information on the topics and subjects that our customers are interested in. For instance, we may share website usage information about visitors to the website with reputable advertising companies for the purpose of targeting our Internet banner advertisements on our website(s). For this purpose pixel tags (also called "clear gifs") may be used to note the pages you've visited. The information collected by the advertising company through the use of these pixel tags is not personally identifiable.
Cookies may also be placed by third parties when you access their sites through linking from our website(s). We do not have access to these cookies or any information that these cookies may contain. Please contact the third-party site for more information on these cookies. Although we encourage third parties to adhere to appropriate privacy policies and standards, we are not responsible for the actions or policies of such parties.
We also take steps to safeguard customer information. We restrict access to your personal and account information to those employees who "need-to-know" that information to provide products and services to you, or otherwise service your account. Employees who violate these standards will be subject to disciplinary measures. For more information about our security procedures, please review our Security Statement on this website. Your Right to Opt Out, Edit and Update
You have the right to opt out of providing certain information, from being contacted by or receiving information from CSB, its advertisers, affiliates and/or strategic partners, and to choose how CSB uses your information. You also have the right to review, edit and update your account information, including all non-public information, at any time. . Security StatementCSB Bank requires all of its vendors and divisions to take proactive steps to ensure that the systems they own or participate in contain adequate security measures to help prevent unintended distributions of confidential information and fraud-related losses. CSB Bank employs a field-proven security infrastructure, and we continually assess new technology for protecting our customers' information. This Security Statement is designed to inform you of some of the methods, processes and procedures used by CSB Bank to help ensure the security of your personal information.
Employees and Firewall
All of CSB Bank's employees are held to strict standards of conduct in order to ensure the confidentiality of our customers' information. Additionally, our firewall technology is the first line of defense in preventing unauthorized access to any information transmitted. Our Internet Banking Service Bureau employs a series of firewalls, which are configured computers that sit between our internal network and the external Internet. These firewalls provide a gateway that controls access to CSB Bank's Internet Banking Service Bureau, helping to protect our customers' information and our systems from unauthorized activity over or through the Internet.
Before our customers can access our Internet Banking Service Bureau, their user ID and password are required to be entered. Without the proper login, customers cannot see or access their accounts. Additionally, our Internet Banking Service Bureau will lock out access to an account after three (3) unsuccessful login attempts. Passwords are case sensitive and it is recommended that passwords are combinations of letters and numbers. It is required that passwords be changed every ninety (90) days.
Time Out Feature
Our Internet Banking Service Bureau also has a time out feature. This feature automatically logs a customer out of his or her session after five (5) minutes of inactivity (by use of a "cookie"). However, for privacy reasons, it's always safer to actually log off the system when you finish conducting your bank business, instead of relying on this back-up security feature.
Account Number Masking and Account Aliases
For security reasons, customers' complete account number(s) never appear on the computer screen. When the account number is displayed it should appear as xxxxxx789 instead of 123456789. Masking should occur from the left. Account "Aliases" are user-defined titles for that customer's account(s) (e.g., "my checking") and are to be used when displaying account information.
When customers are accessing their accounts or other sensitive data through our Internet Banking Service Bureau, the connection is automatically converted into a secure Internet communications session.
Included in our Internet Banking Service Bureau is the capacity to allow only secure connections by our customers. When our customers access their account information or other sensitive data through our Internet Banking Service Bureau, a 128-bit encryption system is automatically activated to protect the transmission of information from unauthorized sources. Utilizing Secure Socket Layer ("SSL") technology, transmissions of web pages and data between CSB Bank and its customers are completely encrypted, which means the information is scrambled in such a way that it cannot be read by anyone other than our customers and us. Using SSL encryption is common in the industry and in Internet applications that require security and privacy for sensitive data.
Steps You Can Take
You can take steps to enhance security of your information and help control risks when using your personal computer or when conducting activities on the Internet. Some of these steps are:
- keeping your password, account numbers, Personal Identification Numbers and other account data confidential;
- logging off of your computer when you're finished with a session;
- installing and updating virus protection software;
- using caution when opening e-mails received from unknown sources;
- ensuring your browser is using the highest encryption available;
- using good judgment in communicating with others, especially those you do not know;
- providing only non-sensitive and non-confidential information in an unsecured e-mail requests or responses; and
- routinely reviewing and reconciling your account information.
